Coppell Volleyball earned its second major district victory of the week Friday night, defeating first-place Plano Senior 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-22) on the road. The Cowgirls handed Plano just its second district loss of the season, following Tuesday’s five-set victory over first-place Plano East.
After dropping the opening set, Coppell responded by winning three consecutive sets, each by an identical 25-22 score. The victory improved the Cowgirls to 6-4 in District 7-6A, giving them consecutive wins over two of the district’s top teams.
Taylor Mechsner delivered one of the night’s standout performances, recording a career-high .467 hitting percentage with 15 kills on 30 attempts and just one error. Brooke Felix led Coppell with 19 kills and 14 digs.
Alette Brown contributed across the court with 11 kills, nine digs and three blocks, while Finley Penniman added nine kills and four blocks. Zoey Ponsen directed the offense with 55 assists and eight digs, and Addison Howard finished with 14 digs.
The Cowgirls’ back-to-back wins over Plano East and Plano Senior mark an important stretch in the second half of district play. Coppell has now defeated both teams on the road this week after falling to Plano Senior in five sets during their first meeting in September.
Coppell’s subvarsity teams also had a successful night. JV won 25-22, 25-18, while the freshman teams recorded straight-set victories of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-22, 25-17.
